RSDA participates in several dance competitions
throughout Winnipeg and North America.
Below is a sampling of competitions of which
RSDA has been a part.

American Dance Awards  is a North American-wide competition and celebration of performing arts.  Touring various U.S. and Canadian cities, A.D.A. encompasses all dance forms including Acro/Gym, Song & Dance, Irish Step, Musical Theatre and Open.

Can-Dance is run across the country. There are two separate competitions during the event. One is the Performing Arts Competition which includes Novice, Pre-Competitive and Competitive divisions and the other is Titled Soloist Competition, which is divided into age categories of Novice, Junior, Intermediate and Senior.

Dance Power is a Canada-wide competition for all dance forms, including Mom's & Dad's Recreational and Productions.

Extreme Dance Conventions brings an "A-list" faculty of successful choreographers and teachers from New York and Los Angeles to your hometown. In a jam-packed two-day intensive workshop, Extreme Dance offers the most up-to-date and cutting edge material, with master classes in all forms of dance. Their competitions showcase performers with advanced production and video/support services. Extreme also offers convention and cash scholarships, as well as specialty classes and forums.

IDO World Ballet and Modern Championships and Jazz Cups in Niagara Falls, Ontario (2009) saw Bonnie Dyer and the Canadian Dance Organization invite the IDO dance world to compete in Canada. More than 500 dancers compete from 11 countries, including Australia, South Africa, Canada, USA and Europe.

L.A. Dance Force is a convention/competition that travels through the U.S., and RSDA has  travelled to Minneapolis to participate.

Lord Selkirk Arts Festival is held in Selkirk, MB in April.  Various dance forms and performing arts are showcased, as well as class/workshops being held for stage dance with voice, auditions, improvisation and choreography.

Manitoba Provincial Dance Festival is a two-week long event in May where groups are chosen by RSDA to perform before a group of judges from Dance Manitoba, and are awarded standings or medals based on their performance.  While groups from other dance studios are there to perform as well, standings and medals are judged on their own merit, NOT compared to other groups.  That is, more than one group may be awarded a Gold or Silver award, for example.

triplethreat01.jpg (52182 bytes)Triple Threat Dance Convention is held in Winnipeg in late fall.  This is a two day workshop un by instructors who have worked with such notables as Janet & Michael Jackson, N’SYNC, and Ricky Martin; some have even been in commercials for Gap and Sony and even in the Tap Dogs.  On the first night students may participate in their showcase.  Everybody at the convention goes home with positive attitudes and enjoys a wonderful weekend.
